To apply to study in Austria, students must meet academic and language requirements based on their chosen program and university. Undergraduate applicants need secondary education equivalent to the Austrian Matura and proof of university entrance eligibility. Language proficiency is required: German (B2-C1) for German-taught programs and English (IELTS 6.0-6.5) for English-taught programs. Essential documents include transcripts, a letter of motivation, and a valid passport. Postgraduate applicants must hold a recognized bachelor’s degree and will need letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and a CV. Some programs require work experience. Non-EU students must provide proof of financial stability.

Intake sessions

Austrian universities have two main intakes for international students. The Winter Semester begins in October, with application deadlines typically closing between April and May. The Summer Semester starts in March, and applications are usually due between November and December. Deadlines may vary by university, so students should check specific requirements in advance.
